If you guys had children, would you avoid gender roles/expectations?
Like girls play with Barbie dolls and wear dresses whiles boys play in the mud, and with cars type of thing. Raising a girl and a boy with that kind of divide or would you raise them in both types of 'worlds'?
well i’ll raise my kid like a normal human being… no gender stereotypes.. if my child wants to play in the mud and dress with said "boy" clothes then sure, who cares.
gender is a social construct, my kid will not be forbidden from doing this or that just because it’s for boys. i want to raise my child as good as possible so they can grow up...... 1 reply
nahhh my child will get to explore everything they want!!! they will see all worlds and i will allow them to pursue anything. im going to raise the most woke person ever (im not planning to have a child) reply
I don't wanna have kids but in a what if scenario, it's a no. Kids are not supposed to be put in tiny boxes and be expected to do only that imo, I'd just let them do wtv they want as long is it isn't harmful for anyone reply
I'm taking it a step even further no gender rolls & No child of mine is gonna pledge their allegiance to a fuckin flag everyday at school (unless they rlly wanna then go ahead my lil nationalists daddy still love u) reply
I replied to the wrong question lmao
But yeah, i don't think i'll ever have kids, but if i did, i'd avoid all of that completely. i feel like ppl expect way too much from kids just because of their gender, and whether people wanna admit it or not, that can leave a huge psychological impact. Where i'm from it's always:
"Girls don't talk like that" ...... 1 reply
I probably will not teach my kid gender roles and expectations. Some people might teach their kids gender roles and depending on their views they might tell their kids gender to follow or oppose them, but I think the kids suffer a similar fate in the way they will label everything and pick it apart.
If my child is a boy and they like blue(a mascul...... reply
I wouldn't ever raise any children, but I don't see why anyone who isn't misogynistic wouldn't allow girls to play in the mud and boys play with dolls, there is literally no sane reason to forbid a child to do an innocent thing they want to do, and to deny them the right to express their true self
btw there are more options than to either raise a ...... reply
Just a bit of context for my post, I made this post because I wanted to ask and think about social conditioning, how girls are raised with certain things and boys with certain different things. And that being used to say how a woman is one thing (wear dresses, skirts and makeup) and man is another (they don't wear dresses, are more rugged or someth...... reply
See I feel like this would be difficult if you wanted to do this, not because you but literally anyone else and influences you might get shit from other ppl and other kids can be mean and cultural values would make this pretty difficult, one thing I would do teach homemaker skills. regardless of gender it’s a valuable skill to teach children lear...... 1 reply
