Why do women have to face this....
My mom is going out next month and she kept pestering me to go with her and when I said no she went on and on about how I have to cook and clean for my dad and brother because I'm a woman and that's how men treat us, that no matter what you study and how much you study you still have to be in the kitchen. It's just really sad because she has been conditioned to think that way and she had hopes and dreams that were crushed because of marriage. Even now my mom only got a job because my dad stopped supporting her financially even though he was the one who made her depend on him. She also often tells me to cover up for the sake of protection and safety but man I can't even get mad at her because that's what she's been told all her life. Of course I don't agree with her but yeah...it's crazy how there are so many moms out there who could've been so much more if it wasn't for this world.
It's plain old misogyny. As I feel bad for your mom, she's also protecting what's keeping her in shackles. It's going to be the same cycle unless broken.
I tell my parents that the things they say don't define me, and guess what! They talk to me less and honestly that's what I want. Peace of mind. reply
Frr lately I've been untangling resentment towards being raised to be a "good girl."
Like keeping quiet/ not causing "trouble", living invisibly and making everyone but myself comfortable. Being paranoid about the outside world, new opportunities or even just moving out.
I know it comes from a need to protect me from a lot of things she's experie...... 1 reply
When elders fall back to nonsensical stereotypes, I ask about the origin.
“Why do you think that?”
“Who did you hear it from?”
“Who told you that?”
“Do YOU think that, or do others?”
It stuns them for a bit bc they start to slightlyyy think about it but can never answer of course. But unlearning bad habits/thoughts starts by ques...... reply
No seriously same! It's always me getting nagged for not cooking or cleaning or picking up after the mess my siblings leave behind, especially my brothers.
None of them are disabled, incapable, too busy or anything at all to not even do the barest minimum.

My mom can be extremely ahead of her times, then she’ll blindside me and say something completely backwards, but overall I’ve been allowed to live my life how I please (which I’m eternally grateful for because I’ve never had an interest in motherhood or even dating).
One thing both parents did always push on my brother and I was education, ...... 1 reply
my mom was also like this, he doesn't like seeing women happy bc she suffers lol, including me, she always buy me ugly clothes, she doesn't take care of me to the point I had teeth issues until the adulthood and the dentist would immediately notice it came from neglect. She kinda change when I argued with her a lot, when my brothers only listen to ...... 1 reply
