Why do women have to face this....
My mom is going out next month and she kept pestering me to go with her and when I said no she went on and on about how I have to cook and clean for my dad and brother because I'm a woman and that's how men treat us, that no matter what you study and how much you study you still have to be in the kitchen. It's just really sad because she has been conditioned to think that way and she had hopes and dreams that were crushed because of marriage. Even now my mom only got a job because my dad stopped supporting her financially even though he was the one who made her depend on him. She also often tells me to cover up for the sake of protection and safety but man I can't even get mad at her because that's what she's been told all her life. Of course I don't agree with her but yeah...it's crazy how there are so many moms out there who could've been so much more if it wasn't for this world.
When elders fall back to nonsensical stereotypes, I ask about the origin.
“Why do you think that?”
“Who did you hear it from?”
“Who told you that?”
“Do YOU think that, or do others?”
