They discovered a new cat species I actually can't believe it I'm so happy I'm jumping with joy !!!
Meet the Tilcayo cat (Scientifically named Leopardus tilcayo) from Bolivia.
Researchers estimate its roughly 1.4 kg and around 45–46 cm long, So it's actually smaller than many domestic cats. It was discovered by an old man who named it talicayo, no one really knows what that name means, even his kids weren't able to answer, it seemed like just an endearing term, but the scientific team decided to honor him by naming the species after what he called the cat that kept coming to his door step.
Researchers analyzed the genomes of 38 Leopardus cats, including museum specimens, and found that the Tilcayo's genetic lineage was distinct. Its lineage diverged from the other tiger cat lineages approximately 1.4 million years ago. So its not a new cat by any means, scientists just discovered it *recently* due to the fact that it looks almost identical to other species of cats
