What's your stance on Death of the Author?
The "Death of the Author" is a literary concept stating that an author's personal life, beliefs, and intended meaning should not control how a text is interpreted by French theorist Roland Barthes in his 1967 essay, the theory argues that once a work is published, it belongs entirely to the reader.
Interesting, I haven't heard of that theory before!
I dont think the authors intention should be the final say but it should be just as important as the readers interpretation.
I cant completely ignore when an author explicitly states a scene should be interpreted a certain way. I also can't ignore intentionally autobiographical texts. It tells t...... reply
im sooooo against this theory bc what the author writes is completely shaped by their life and beliefs and you simply cant overlook what made what you're reading and brings it all its depth 1 reply
I think fully disregarding an authors viewpoints & intentions is stupid cuz oftentimes what they believe informs their writing. To use JK Rowling as an example cuz she's low hanging fruit.
