I'd say everyone and their grandmas are obsessed with Japan but since we're only talking about cis white men, I think it's because they're horny as fuck and have yellow fever. Y'know I read on Ao3 and I maximize the use of the filter system there so I wouldn't say I have read a 'bad' fanfic.
