i don’t think this was about coming to like or sympathize with the mother but to understand where she’s coming from. she wasn’t emotionally mature enough to be a mom. she was a terrible mother and she loved her sons, those aren’t mutually exclusive. she has a lot of trauma, but she gave her son a lot of trauma, which was a shit thing to do. she should have been responsible, but she wasn’t, and that’s why we’re at this point. i don’t sympathize with her but i doubt the mother spending the rest of her life miserable would be cathartic to the mc even if he understands that she was awful to him. i’m happy that mc eventually was able to grow and learn to respect himself and bless us with shower sex though kek
