And I'll ask you this, if ryuji was ever at all against a normal friendship with makoto, why wouldn't he, an individual, chose to leave the friendship all together? You act like makoto is to blame for ryuji's character choice. Everyone in this story is battling their own fights, they're all greatly written characters and all have their own distinct voices .
You reading it in the point of "oh that hurts my favorite character" while completely disregarding what the whole story have been trying to tell (everyone have their own ups and downs and stories to go through) . The author made ryuji be okay to stay friends with makoto regardless of his feelings, and this is their character, why can't you accept that?
But it's not makoto's fault. I have a friend of mine that I know she was in love with me, even though I talked about my interest in boys always I had a chance. I rejected her proposal to be my girlfriend, but we are still friends. It was in 2019. We are friends since 2018

I really like makoto in the early chapter but i started to kinda don't like him as the story progress when he want to stay friend with ryuji even though he know ryuji likes him. His action really force ryuji to feel bad and end up still together with him as a friend even though at that point makoto start develop his feeling to aoi. If you realize you love aoi, you should just end-it with ryuji so maybe he can move on and find somebody else. Even ryuji said he still love him and what if he cant even give up his feeling and what makoto action? "ohhh let continues play buddy-buddy and figure it out together" like wth ryuji already figured up his feeling and he the one who still has wishy washy mind not sure what to do with his feeling. For me, Making ryuji stay with him as his friend while him end up together with someone else is cruel. His action is really selfish and Ryuji really deserves someone better
