I've reread this story multiple times and if genuinely a good story, is the ending a bit rushed? Probably but that goes for a lot of serialization.
Ryuji's end being open ended is good, readers can imagine him growing up for a better future all on his own. Does that mean I'm satisfied with ryuji's future not being explored canonically? Nah ,but it's good enough.
Saw a comment saying "why not go full bl or gl?" Maybe bc the whole point of the story is that makoto should be able to live and love whoever they want regardless of their gender? Why does the author never labeled him any specific gender? Maybe bc being whoever you are probably doesn't need a lable ? The whole story never points it out as oh, makoto wants to transition, oh makoto wants to stay expressing himself as Male, nope, makoto is simply makoto and that's okay. Gender is a social construct, sex isn't, sex is biology and that has never been this story's point of contention . It has always been about gender expression and being true to oneself. This was less a romance story and more of a slice of life.
Saw some people being misogynistic towards aoi too and I think that's so insane. She was never the reason ryuji was rejected. Makoto simply doesn't see him that way and that's okay? Ryuji being rejected once doesn't mean he'll never ever get to love another? Some of y'all act like if aoi wasn't here ryuji would be picked, no he wouldn't. Makoto had a whole childhood with this guy, they would fall in love if it's what makoto and ryuji mutually wants, and they didn't. I would argue that without aoi in this story, it could literally end as tragedy , bc ryuji while being supportive of makoto, never went out of his way to ensure makoto was able to be their true self. Because he himself was still figuring out his own shit and that's okay! Aoi did, hence why the story can evern progress this much.
Let people be whoever and whatever they want, not everything has to end in black and white, open endings are beautiful.
haven’t finished it yet so could you spoil it for me please? I really want to know if Makoto and Aoi end up together (●'◡'●)ノ they’re so cute marijuana
