Most BL readers are straight women, so I think because it features two hot dudes they're more interested in those stories, even if they're generic/straight-up ass/filled with rape, as opposed to reading stories about two women in love. A lot of fujoshis pull the "all GLs are written by/for men," even if realistically 80-90% of GL is actually written BY women FOR women, so don't fall for that propaganda + almost 100% of BLs are written by women, so idk why when a GL is written by a man it's immediately bad??
Though there are also some viable criticisms against GL mangas, such as a lot of GLs feature high-schoolers, stories are usually way too simplistic, once the couple gets together the story is basically over, some GLs keep the relationship way too ambiguous/subtext etc., but most people don't really bring up those things when they shit on GL, just the same boring "omg women are being fetishised/showing actual sexual desire, GROSS!! THIS WAS DEF WRITTEN BY A MAN, DISGUSTING!!" EVEN THOUGH the most fucked up/toxic GLs still pale in comparison to most weird ass BLs.

. Sweet, school-life = boring
. Some GL fans have a superiority complex over BL fans e.g. 'GL is deeper/more toxic/more interesting than most BL' = discourse dissuades BL fans in particular to disengage
Idk about others but I avoid straight romance cus am aro/ace and reading about girl in love/relationship feels like im supposed to relate to her and I don’t like that cus many Cant write women well at all!!
I did read some GL and some were interesting enough I enjoyed them but many were also just… same gender roles as straight couple…
When that happens in BL I can ignore it cus it’s a guy even if he’s feminine and bottom or whatever, but whenever a girl is potrayed like that I’m reminded some people truly can’t imagine a relationship where the “female” isn’t submissive and dumb and the top isn’t “cool and strong”
Basically: many GLs I tried reading tasted like Ariana Grande & Cynthia Eriva shipping on twt, bland and filled with unnecessary gender stereotypes

for myself, even as a bi woman, i don't read much. but i enjoy them when i get to them (though id watch a sapphic film over reading. jus like the format better for gl. seen many films, but only read a few gl) and it also lowk makes by bf uncomfortable soo yeah ╮(￣▽￣)╭

True, at the end of the day it's absolutely fine if someone doesn't want to read GLs or BLs or even straight romances, but imo I've always seen BL readers talking shit about (MOST of the time) GLs, even though they literally just read BLs for the smut and then have the nerve to shittalk about every other romance genre lol.

Why are people more interested in BL mangas than GL mangas? As someone who's friends with BL watchers and readers, im taken back when some scrunch their noses or just plain on reject me when I recommend them any yuri stuff. Whats so good about BL mangas that dominates GL mangas for them in wonder? And why the discrimination?
