What the fuck is up with these people who react to any criticism on a manga/manhwa and say "DONT READ IT THEN!!!!". I feel like these Bishes have abandoned their brain at TikTok's doorstep because critical thinking is so dead. The fun part about engaging with media is to TALK about the media, DOESNT MATTER IF ITS POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE. LET PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT SHIT THEY DONT ENOJOY!!!!!!!!!

because the 'criticism' tends to be from people who don't like the genre, i.e complaining a psychological manga/hwa is too fucked up which... of course it is. i'd argue that it's the opposite and tiktok has rotted a lot of people's brains into thinking that an author portraying fictional toxicity means that they're endorsing it, when it's literally fiction.

I assume you're talking about those works with toxic tropes and if so it's because those kinds don't really want to talk about it, and most of the time they also flame people who actually enjoy those stories. If you're looking for actual discussions you're in the wrong place.

Agreed! Its such an irrational thing to say.
When you criticises something, after reading - "THEN DON'T READ IT"

When you criticize without reading- "YOU HAVEN'T EVEN READ IT WHAT DO YOU KNOW"

I don't think there is anything wrong with criticism coming from people who dislike the genre. In my view, portraying fictional toxicity is not the problem but how its portrayed.

And yes there are many people who just jump on authors without understanding the work.
Expecting some meaningful discussion on a minute short tiktok video is too much to expect I guess.

OMFG YES, THIS HAPPENED TO ME ONCE
Someone told me "well, if u didn't like why u read it"
And I said "well, I wanted to give it a try, since I don't like to criticize a story I haven't finished"
AND THEY CALLED ME A DUMB BITCH AND GOT MAD AT ME
Mind yall, I didn't even say anything bad abt the manhwa nor the characters, I literally js mentioned how what they did was kinda dumb and how the plot was dragged for no reason

FUCKING YES!, exactly what I recently discussed (stupid ass discussion is on my page, nice and fresh lol). The fact people go though life without expressing critical opinions is baffling to me. Staying silent when there's something to be criticized is a fucking recession indicator or something. 'Lets keep it all positive and dandy, don't say a word'. Fuck no, I'm a super opinionated bitch and NEED to talk shit when something is worth being talked shit about.

And yes, how tf can one criticize something without having engaged with it first? Or do those people want me to not read it and already judge the book by its cover? Or read one single page and conclude it's shit? (Although, some authors have a special talent for putting me off in the first couple of panels) You can't use logic with those kindergarten level bots

To add, one can also criticize a genre as a whole. One can and should criticize *anything* , that's the beauty of human expression and at least a positive out of the many negatives of social media for example.

I've enjoyed works in genres I usually don't like just like I've heavily disliked works of genres I typically enjoy. Some people however are so obsessed with a genre they can't see past it, and praise or indulge in stuff that's just bad quality. Written poorly, executed poorly, and yet they defend it vehemently. The tendency I've seen is with people who like toxic/coercive/rape-y shit ('psychological' lol) to defend it a lot, even if many works are trivial, stupid, have braindead characters, behaviors of said characters, and awful portrayal of SA survivors, SA itself, etc. (Horrible as in, SA is shown as sexy, it's shown like a usual porn-y scene with all the fluids, blushing, etc.) THAT is what's worth being criticized for example, and what the implications of portraying SA that way can be IRL. The fact SA is shown or exists in stories alone isn't an issue and it's sadly part of life, just like everything else.

yes! it's so funny to me that the same people who go "don't like, don't read" in response to anyone saying anything critical about a work somehow can't apply that principle to said criticism, as if they can't also scroll past that. God forbid some of us have firing synapses and like to analyze things! or think that BL doesn't have to be synonymous with rape/SA even if it's dealing with darker themes.

yeah well...they can like that type of content if they want. it's fiction. it's not the author's responsibility to baby their audience and assume that they aren't capable of critical thought. we're all adults here (or should be anyway).

    steelsamurai December 30, 2025 12:38 pm

people can read anything and criticise anything they want, but mfs don't know to act in fandoms anymore and will be harassing authors and readers for being problematic (by reading something..that isn't real) instead of just not engaging. let people enjoy their slop if they so please, the world is miserable enough already

The same applies to fandoms who harass and bark at people for simply criticizing tho. It goes both ways.

yup exactly, glad to see someone who does not think criticism as useless. Only talking about positives and shutting down criticism is just ignorance.
