Ok I’m from Iran and the titles Padishah and Sultan are both heavily used there. Sultan has an Arabic origin but Padishah is a Persian word and literally just translates to king. I’m enjoying the series a lot but it is heavily implied that Shuraka is Indian. I was just wondering if historically these words were also used in India or not since they have such a strong Persian/arabic influence. (Or is Shuraka Persian/arabic?? Is it another Aladdin situation where they just merged all of Southern Asia together??)

I was thinking it was a mix!

Unrelated-ish but the words are really pretty

Me too. I'm from India and I am aware of the whole history of Delhi Sultanate but not Padishah.

I have a feeling it’s like an asian/Middle East mix for the race. Because it definitely has some elements from India all the way to German and Russian. Like you could argue the MC is of Russian origin or something of the sort because of the cold and proximity. And you could argue that the ML is of Indian or middle eastern decent. The building styles are definitely Russian and Indian (the onion dome is from Russia but most known at the Taj Mahal in India which I think the palace of the ML is designed after) it also has some eerie connotation because the Taj Mahal is a mausoleum or a place to house the dead. I don’t know if the author thought about that design choice too much but oh well.

It’s not heavily implied. You people need to stop trying to find representation in everything when it’s literally a work of fantasy fiction. Fantasy usually takes elements from a LOT of cultures. Regardless of the titles and words they use. Shuraka is an emperor from a fantasy empire that takes elements from several east cultures. Period.

Though thinking about it more the people who live north Russia where it is cold like it is in the story all year round normally look pretty similar to Chinese Asians. But most mangas/manhuas depict everyone with generic features and barely any race indicators other than hair and skin color.

I get where you're coming from but this story seems to be placed in the Ottoman empire or Persia. Shuraka was never indian and also him referring to Tei as a sultana means he's either Persian or Ottoman, plus Arnata being a scotching desert area. Although judging by Shuraka's attire I would say more Ottoman empire than old Persia

    Owii same,
I'm more familiar with the word of Sultan considering I'm from India but not padishah.
I wish to know how BWAT came up with this idea, especially which inspo they took from because this is peak.
I also wish, if only studies of the past were taught this way.

Hard agree, I saw onapp ppl saying how Shuraka isn't a non white chara bcuz he doesn't have curly hair and body/face hair. Not everything needs to be related to irl. Also, manhwa/manga/manhua are known to have drawings of pretty looking characters whether seme or uke, if some want "manly realistic men" they should go read marvel stories

Yes I figured I was just curious to learn what the authors inspirations could be haha I just assumed Shuraka was mostly Indian inspired because of his clothes and the architecture of Arnata ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
