I also dont fully understand but my guess is that they made dulan kill Karen bc anyone who kills her while shes pregnant is reborn in the next loop with ALL of their memories from the 1st loop. So if they make that shit priest remember all of his lives and suffering, they can finally learn how to break the curse for good, since the SOB could never endure immortality the way our power couple can

Not the next loop. He remembers after he had killed her. It's the happy loop before the next loop. He didn't die and wasn't convicted. But as a coward he is, he now understood the pain and couldn't live with it.
