Thoughts on Star ratings

i don’t really pay much attention to the rating especially since i believe it’s better to find out about stories urself i just read the summary if there is one and look at the photos that were saved under it and read it based on the art, what the plot see,s to be and obviously how fine the characters are sometimes

i don’t think you’re missing much. anything under an 8.0 is just objectively bad i feel.

i read whatever i feel spiritually connected to lol ratings or comments dont matter. i actually try to avoid reading the comments because im easily influenced and wont read it if the comments say its bad

Yea that’s understandable too. Comments can sometimes be very persuasive, which isn’t always a good thing, especially when you’re wondering if you should read something or not. Thx for leaving a commenting.

I use it but with a grain of salt.. if it’s below a 8.0 and has a lot of ratings I usually wont even bother. I usually will read something if it has above an 8.5 and I like the summary.

You're making me realize that the way I decide what to read is very methodic lmao.
The ratings are the first thing I look at (after the cover which is usually what makes me want to click), but I DON'T automatically exclude it if the rating is low. I'm definitely gonna keep it in mind though.
Then I look at the description:
- if the plot seems interesting and the ratings are high I put it in my "want to read" without even thinking about it
- if it seems interesting BUT the ratings are low I'm gonna skim through the comments to see why people don't like it (and decide whether to read depending on if I care about those aspects or not)
- if it does NOT seem interesting but the ratings are high I'm also gonna skim through the comments in search of spoilers that are potentially going to change my mind and make me interested
Also, I don't COMPLETELY trust the ratings. It's true that stories below 8 stars usually always suck (so if I read them it's usually because of morbid curiosity lol), but apart from that it becomes ambiguous around 8.5. It happened A LOT of times that I found stories with a 9+ rating that imo ended up sucking (usually those with a relatively decent art but a terribly toxic or boring plot), while I found others with a rating around 8.5 that I liked much more than a lot of highly rated ones. I also noticed that people tend to be more generous with the ratings for manhwas rather than mangas so I also keep that in mind before I exclude a manga because of the lower ratings

Makes sense. I’ve had the same experience with things rated that low.
