Tbf, you kinda have to see past it too. She is there because she desperately needs them for her goal, which is saving her country. Let's say she talks back to the staff and her reputation suffers more. She can't do anything that will make her be seen as unfavorable. Being a doormat is unfortunately something she will have to deal with as to not put her country at risk. Same with the dude. Enough is enough when you don't have something as important as a country to lose. Otherwise, you take it and try making the best out of the situation as much as you can not to be depressed or smth lol. While I usually hate doormat fls, this one has a situation that demands a bit of that, since she cant be too careful if she wants support, which is their last resort.

I understand that she *has* to act that way, but I have a serious problem with how the narrative has this coiling BS going on of "if she suffers enough, things will turn out OK! <3" because that's not how prejudice works. Like on a realistic level you really can't blame someone for trying to make the best out of something not to be depressed, like you said, but a narrative always has intent. We're given insight on how characters think despite how they act, for a reason. And the intent here just looks like trying to make a fairy tale out of a tragedy, yk? which feels frustrating, imo

Her being positive thinking has nothing to do with how the writer has decided to handle her facing discrimination. It’s the same song and dance of being “nice” to people who look down on you to “change their minds” but in reality, if someone is prejudiced against you that will not change no matter how nice you are.
