He was just turned on by him and he realized how deeply he wanted him after getting with the kisaengs and he didn’t enjoy the experience as much as he did with the MC.
Except for the fact that he vaguely thought about how the Mc resembled his “dead” friend a little before season 1 ended, we haven’t seen him think of his “dead” friend until way later, when his feelings for the MC deepened and MC showed up with the aromatic oil his “dead” friend used to make. It’s clear they’re falling for each other regardless of outside factors.

Uh… that’s where you’re wrong. The MC explicitly asked him not to sleep with other people. ML agreed not to and he hasn’t slept with anyone else ever since. If the MC expects that of the ML, then it’s only right for MC to reciprocate that show of respect by not seeing other people. Otherwise we’re swimming in hypocrisy.
