I doubt she could have held back much because she loves him that much. I mean, she has done everything his far for him, so I doubt she could just hide her feelings. And being such a "new" fairy, esp one who hadn't made a contract at that point, and her being well known, but not easily approachable, it's natural that some may think she's a bit naive or wet behind the ears. Though as you said, I'm sure a few of them were suspicious.
