The FL was hella dumb for going in but the reason the ML didn’t just up and kill that old woman was because the woman didn’t cast the curse so killing her won’t break the curse. That woman is also the only one who knows who casted the curse so killing her would eliminate any and all chance of maybe getting a clue from the old woman through torture or smth
To add, her stop mom is still nobility. We don't know how the connections run but killing FL's stepmom is definitely going to get her husband in trouble.
