I think what pupnotwolf meant was the ML isn’t as horrible as the other red flags.
He isn’t as mean or physically abusive towards the MC, unlike other ML who rapes and abuse their MCs.

I've also read the novel and he had never once hurt the mc intentionally. From the start until the end, he really did everything for the wellbeing of the mc. His only mistake was not realizing that what he's feeling is love. But even before that, he already shows the love and care for mc. The locking up is hard to explain unless reading the novel. So I think it's inaccurate to label him as one definite color. It only comes down to what type of situations occurred and how readers perceived them.

The ML has his own ways in showing his love hence he kidnapped the MC (which is questionable, but he’s really lacking big time emotionally, he loves the MC but he doesn’t know how to show it in normal terms) the MC also is very unsure about the ML’s love which is why he kept on rejecting the ML’s help and ML is just afraid that MC’s going to leave him. There will be a very short accident arc, but other than that they were able to talk it out. Nothing really happened after that just some few extras. It has a happy ending though, the novel’s also pretty short.

Okay here’s the correct one, ML loves the MC but again typical top that realizes everything at the end. He did lock up the MC but he was able to let him go cause he really loves him (and he can see how much the MC is suffering) He did his fair share of redemption arc, as well. The friend ended up with the ML’s henchman, though their story was not really given depth just in passing.

He was very confused for several days, he was disheveled but he didn’t really grovel. I think the best part was he was afraid to take gifts from the MC because the MC gave him shoes before leaving him so he was like one gift was enough and he cannot bear to wear those shoes again (▰˘◡˘▰)
