The author should have stick to northern duke type of story as in made up or if author wants cowboy in their stories they could pick other timeline why the time where people make slaves. If author like horses that much there are equestrian it's interesting in modern setting since I don't see much of that
Here is how it could plays out....from the description of the story...it seem our white mc falls for ml first. From the tag it seems the ml is trynna take revenge so to make matter worse we are going to see an indigenous biracial ML falls in love and be the one to comfort our white mc through his civil war PTSD. An oppressor getting comforted by the people whose he oppressed... .......and the best part is.... people will probably villainized the man of color if he continues with his revenge and make the poor traumatized white boy cry. People of color are still discriminated and are still oppressed till these day. People being so causal about racism and racial profiling people so to use a historical event where people of color suffer from all kind of torture from being eaten, beat, rape and so on and already have the biracial ML call himself a humble slave aiming for revenge while the mc is like this depressed dude who isn't like others because he tell the slave on his ranch to do whatever he wants is a bit...
