My two cents: BL is a space where intelligent discourse is actively discouraged,unfortunately. Rape should not be complained about, the recurrent misogny and stereotyping, the inherent homphobic nature of some of these yaois etc. so I don't think an author should write about real life sensitive issues that are STILL ongoing, the wounds of which is STILL fresh, of the author doesn't have the brains or guts to do it properly, with proper research, and ACCURATE depictions. If you are not capable, then don't even use it. She could have easily created some random medieval or fictional cowboy fantasy thing and her fans would've ate up anything.
