Bcs problem isn’t in this one dialogue, but in the whole plot

It’s the fact that the main plot point is how the ml, a poc in a time of the inhumane slavery of kidnapped africans, labels himself as the white mc’s slave in this story. The use of slaves in this one chapter alone is gross too. Its essentially romanticizing slavery with some white savior ideology in it

wait but white people who didnt agree with the south DID do these things bc its a fact they had the privilege to”save” them. Is it just that people should not write about this time at all then? or like what would you say the better alternative is?

The author is Korean basing their story during a very sensitive time for Black and Indigenous people. They’re clear in their intention to make this a love story between a white master and his Indigenous slave. Already in chapter 1 they’ve inserted the white savior trope, which is a common problematic theme across various media. It’s not that people shouldn’t write about this time period, just if you are then you should approach it delicately. Making a love story between the oppressor and the oppressed is not approaching it delicately.
