Stop groveling over a cancelled manhwa (rightfully so), because atp this is just giving fetishizing. Honestly be glad the author took accountability and cancelled this and recognized their own ignorance because what was the thought process while serializing this? Slave x owner, really? And mind you, two things can be true at once. YES there are other horrible manhwas out there but YES this one by JAXX is very clearly problematic and blatantly racist. The manhwa's theme settings does not change the fact that the relationship dynamic is harmful, (opressed x opressor) because no amount of good writing will ever erase the years of torture, racism, and discrimination that slaves went through that still very much bleeds through the present time.
I feel like it could've been so good man. Honestly so dissapointed, we didn't even get past episode one?! I wish people could of held their judgements until at least the first few episodes which usually get released in bulk for new stories. And the way people are just throwing around accusations of racism for people making logical arguments in the comment sections here is crazy lol.
Nobody said it's inherently racist to tell a story set during slavery. The problem is how the story is told. When your protagonist is a slave owner's son who's portrayed as "one of the good ones," loses his wealth, frees his slave (not really cuz the way he did it in this story is not how slave are actually legally freed) and then gets treated like a saint by the very people his family enslaved, you're not really telling a story about slavery. You're telling a story about how noble a white character is. The issue is that the enslaved characters seem to exist mainly to validate the white protagonist's morality and nobody is obligated to "correct and inform" an author before criticizing their work. Readers are allowed to say a story is poorly written, historically tone-deaf, or built on racist tropes. Criticism isn't cancellation the author herself CHOSE to cancel it after hearing the criticism.
Not sure if you guys've read more of the chapters than I have, but where is the white guy being treated as a saint by the enslaved men? The story literally has one chapter, the story hasn't even begun or been told in any sort of way to give judgement of how the author writes (or would write) these difficult topics.
Of course we can talk about the fetishization of the master/slave relationship, being put in this very sore historical topic. And maybe I am desensitized by having grown up reading fanfics, but I am of the belief of "don't like, don't read", but in the realm of yaoi and BL... fetishization comes with the territory. Especially BL with smut. Like every title from this author.
They literally thanked him and said their goodbyes and "by the way the cowhand is gonna arrive soon". I literally had to pull the chapter up again, because of your comment. I'm a bit astounded by how you view that interaction, to be honest.
Is it possible you guys have your guard up because of racism in the US?

I have not survived 15 years reading yaoi for a manga to be cancelled like this. There are more problematic mangas out there full of shit.I understand the issue but lets get real, this was going to be probably a good plot manga w awesome art and in a historic setting for fucks sake and look what u have done TRAGIC
