Omg finally somebody! I am tired of people going wild, shouting words like racist, bigot, ignorant etc. to everybody who doesn't feel like this work is problematic. As a European I admit my knowledge might not be the best on this part of US history, but as it is FICTION and nobody seems to really care about other problematic topics in BL (rape, murder etc.) I am totally clueless why people are going wild now.
right cause OP wanted to say bl often have slavery themes in them but theyre all fictional (???) like ive never read a manhwa about korean slavery in japan because its a sensitive topic for koreans however when it comes to slavery in the US suddenly its not a big deal??? and its not even about the fact that it set during the civil, its just that its alr so inaccurate and obv just used as a way to create an "interesting dynamic" between this weird ass master-slave relationship
Sorry if you missed the history classes, but modern US citizens are basicly descendants of European colonizers who moved to America and renamed themselves. Ohh and of course don't forget what happened to the poor native Americans in the meantime...
But even that aside everybody has a say in the matter. If you look down from the high horse you might realise that your opinion is not worth more than anybody else's... All opinions and feelings are legit.
It actually is. A genre made mostly by heterosexual women in order to entertain other mostly also heterosexual women with stories of fictional homosexual relationships...? That is basicly textbook definition fetishization. But if you tell yourself enough times, you might actually believe your own version.
Just a reply to GLORIOUSKINGKABRU:
You cannot take away the roots and the main creators + audience of the genre because then you are left with nothing. It doesn't matter if you are aroace, many aroace people enjoy BL. Fetishization is the way itself how character relationships are portrayed in BL, not how you handle reading it.
Also I am gypsy. So congrats on being the real racist here...

Okay hear me out… we have seen BL deal with VARIOUS different forms of slavery before (typically Eastern and European… She’s cancelling bc it’s American slavery? Y’boy was part of Union Army. He fought for slavery to end. He was handing off his money to HELP his family’s recently freed slaves. So bc the other guy looks (possibly) indigenous we’re mad? I’m confused? I’m a park ranger in the south I teach about African and Native American slavery all day. Plantation slavery, the Trail of Tears, military strongholds, all of it. What. Are. We. Mad. About. In. This. Particular. Fictional. Story?
