The beginning of the series he couldn't take the violence environment of the gang and how it made him feel numb and inhumane but as I mentioned Jason didn't not want Ian. He wanted TJ but TJ said to Jason that he would only work for Jason if Ian is in it too. So Jason persuade Ian to work for him and Ian has the misconception that he had drag TJ into the gang. MY BABY KNEW HE WASN'T WANTED. He saw how TJ is thriving and building a legacy for himself so although he thought he was selfish in trying to leave the gang alone, he also thought it was best for TJ and his legacy in the organization. He only wanted a one night stand with Jo and it just ended up lasting longer than usual. He kinda see young TJ in Jo. So it kinda like he is trying to move on but he is still looking for the TJ before the organization and stuff.
