I think the reason I dont get surprised by this is cause I have been reading yaoi for over 12 years and I can tell a yaoi that is trying to build a plot/analysis and a yaoi that is a fetish, also I honestly think Japanese mangas are so much worse than this that this doesn't make me surprised (I am in no way saying this aint brutal). Cause in a way shock value doesnt work on me, it is the narrative that does. I dont feel anything reading this on the other hand I read banana fish got so sick I started to pray to god (I am an atheist) and banana fish has no explicit sa scenes. So I think it depends so much from person to person.
I actually think this manhwa is quite bland and repetitive, I read cause I love juyeon face.
Your opinion is understandable. I agree. There are certain elements to a story that drive me to love it. I have been reading for many years as well. So I understand where you're coming from, manhwa was a new genre for me to step into. I had to get comfortable, and I believe many others have to. It's not to say that it's not cruel, but I still respect the artist and her struggle to release something such as this. Because I can't imagine what she went through in order to have the confidence to give us something to talk about. I have to respect her in some aspect. It may not be to your liking, and that's understandable. I personally don't like some things either. But your confidence is something I can admire. But I also feel that the respect for the artist should be present in your opinion. It probably was a shock for her to hear opinions from others about her story, and it's not to say that the artist is a woman or a man, I just have known that the genre of manga, and comics has always been a somewhat female dominated field. And trust me I've seen my fair share of males. But I want to come back to the topic of her story. It's not so much about cruelty for me that draws me to the story, nor is it the characters and how they are depicted in the story. For me it's the overwhelming drive for her to be able to overcome a lot of human emotion, and work past that to give us something that we've never read before. I say that it's f***** up because it truly is. But I think that type of f***** up is kind of what made me overcome some things in my life. I look to reflect on the stories and how they meant to be an emotionally make me feel. And I think that her story really puts into perspective how deep the human emotion can really run without really having someone to tell you to stop. So I can do nothing but respect what you have to say, but I do hope that you try to open yourself to trying to understand what the artist is really important when it comes to them releasing a story that's really mean something to them. Love and happiness to you.
I dont think this story is dense at all, nor I think it deserves praise even tho I like it. I think it is repetitive and a lot of japanese works make a much better job with psychological horror than this. Nor do I think this author gave a lot in their work, this honestly reads like a fetish pour in the novel. I am not against that tho, as I said I like this work, but I dont think there is anything remarkable about it at all. There are authors that are much more brutal, like ero guro authors that indeed make you see the brilliance of their mind in how they craft the structure of the work. This one is more a quickly fap than a violent shock against reality. But might be cause I have read too many heavy works, this one is not impressive to me at all.
I dont think it was that much of a shock to them to hear opnions on it, yaoi has a history of being a genre that is anti censorship and as such it has always worked with brutal elements in its narrative, I would say the old japanese works were even worse than this. I think authors know the genre they are working with and the type of receiving it will get cause they are familiarized with the history of the genre and how society deals with it more than most readers as most readers do not know how the yaoi genre was formed in japan and korea.
There is a reason manhwas like ks and harada's works are reconized as psychological masterpieces, but this will never be. And it is about structure and not about elements or the degree of brutality, that is irrelevant, it is the way the author manipulates the narrative that matters. This work is very repetitive tbh and bland in its cruelty, it usually only surprises people that aint used to reading heavy works (nothing wrong with not liking reading heavy stuff tho). If you are it honestly looks more like a bland porn. What for me is okay, I still like it and speacially like juyeon

People trying to paint this as a psychological horror masterpiece to make themselves feel better for liking slop is killing me lol. Bro it is not a sin to like slop, this gymnastics to try to "moralize" it by pretending the author wanted to delve in the psych to make somd type of analysis or criticism around sa situations is just funny. Be a proud raccoon, accept the slop as it is. Nothing wrong with that.
The comparatives with works like ks is killing me, next thing i will see is someone comparing this to harada
