Oh, the scent is there..it can be subtle or faint but it is there if you pay close attention. And it's not just the scent that gives it away, it's also the person's (if they're masturbating) or the pair's mannerisms and facial expressions. They'll look flush, sweaty and have this like after glow type of thing going on around them. And also the way they react to each other.
