He was never abusive to her? He was just dumb.
And then he was a grieving father who didn't know how to grieve.

Mental and verbal abuses are also abuse and they're more effective than physical abuse. It breaks human mind, not everyone can recover from it
I'm a victim of 21 years of verbal, mental and physical abuse. I know what that looks like.
I'm still in therapy knowing I'll never fully heal. But this story is not one of him beating her or yelling.
This is about grief and lack of communication. So they fixed it by learning to communicate and properly grieving their child.
Did you forget the snowmen? The conversations they had about their loss?
The last 50 chapters at this point have been about them healing from shared grief of the loss of a child.
