Basically because his parents die and he becomes legal guardian for his brother he emotionally shuts himself down and becomes numb to everything. He has to work extra hard, can't enjoy being out with others, responsibility, feeling not good enough, blah blah. The author attempts to make it sympathetic, but he's just an asshole who uses peoples attention and love for himself without giving it back to them.
Why is he being super avoidant? I don’t want to stick around any longer to find out. Honestly it’s a bit painful to read. But I’m still curious.
