You are so right about that, the only reason they seem to be trying now is because the FL is trying so hard to make it so.
Like both the mother and father can go to this outpost (at different times because one royal needs to stay at the palace. Or fuck it, both cuz that’s been done in other mangas) and see him.

These parents are completely trash. They don’t care about their children and each other. They completely neglected their sons and even in case of fl, if she wasn’t so persistent and adult and wasn’t dying, I don’t they would have cared a bit and even then they hardly meet her after months apart. Even fl said she has held her father’s hand only twice or something.
