I get it, there are stories were rape is part of the plot in a meaningful way and not just for cheap drama. But also understand why people said it was unecessary. Rape is a huge no no for a lot of people, so the whiplash from their loving sex scene from the end of vol 1 and the rape scene was A LOT imo. Specially with how it was protrayed. Its explicit and veeery detailed, we see Gino's inner thoughts of the awful thing he is going through, feeling good while being violated and being violated by someone you loved. It's a very hard read for sure, and not everyone can stomach how gruesome and close to reality it can be, and I respect that.
In conclusion: In my opinion, it serves a purpose in the plot and it is supposed to be uncomfortable. However its very gruesome and to me it's one of those things that is irreedemable, no matter the context. The story is still interesting, but it's going to be veeeeeeery hard for me to be invested on them as a ship like I was in the first volume
