Sometimes you gotta lose somebody to cherish their presence in your life. Sometimes their presence is so suffocating that you just can't see anything but your gasps for some air. Some people are like that. The mom of MC was like that towards her too. MC was innocent. She was born to love and be loved, but her mother broke her, just like her grandma had broken her mom. The guilt she is bearing for the rest of her life is not even hers to begin with. It is her mother's sorrow and inability to change for her daughter that is passed down as yet another burden on her daughter. She was the grown up, she was the mom. It was on her to break the cycle of hurt and neglect. But she chose to just pass it on. Learning to show love towards your child, your one and only ally in this world, is not hard. You just need to want it. "I hope you have more love in your life than I did", she says at the end. A thought too late and too weak. She should have taken the one chance life had given her to experience unconditional love and changed for the better. No one can help you but yourself, and the mom just gave up on herself, and by extension, her daughter.
