Might be a hot take but does gene even love trevor?? I have to start by saying this is a very well written story but is it a good romantic story?? In my opinion it really wasnt... i loved how real the characters felt and i could genuinely feel how deeply trevors feelings were for gene... he quite literally loved him enough to give him everything he has then set him free.. he made a sacrifice there... and he prob knew that genes feelings for him werent the same as his... From how i see it yes gene liked trevor.. he was grateful to him... yes he was willing to let everything go in order to stay with trevor.. but not out of love... it was only cz he was indebted to him cz trevor was the reason for what he has become.. he only ever took from him and never gave anything in return.. he liked being showered in love and being taken care of... but thats it... He left his family and got tortured by it but he still made the same choice again... frankly because trevor mattered less to him... he wasnt his family nor his lover and he only ever got with him to pay back him debt cz he knew how much trevor love him... it was a pure one sided love... that's why i found trevor so angelic.. cz he loved without asking anything in return... he didnt even ask gene to stay in touch with him... and gene took that and ran with it.. never even intended on coming back... didnt even send him one photocard during those 16 years... Not to mention that the writer was intentional with it and pointed at genes lack of romantic love multiple times during the story... so yea in opinion this is really a miserable one sided love story and i did not like that.. Tho id love to hear how others viewed it.. as i so badly wish that i just got it wrong...
