It's called integrity and being an honest decent person.
Only people who are selfish and think only of an easy existence would not flinch at having someone see them only as a sexual plaything that can be appeased by throwing money at any problem.
Mc sticking point is ml has always maintained that it's only sexual, no emotional love and mc accepted that, while not hiding what he feels but he can't understand these actions without attaching emotions to them but he's trying not to delude himself into a fantasy where ml loves him.

as someone that’s poor i really can’t understand these characters who have the chance to take money and never accept it. what’s so noble about working hard? he already worked hard. why can’t he just accept something that’s easy
