Truth, I was lowkey pissed off that her dad ended up dead. I haven’t read the novel, so I’m hoping there was reasonable cause to his passing—granted death can be unpredictable, so at least that he tried writing to Miss Pendleton but something or someone restricted his letters. I genuinely would think it messed up if he spent all his old age in the estate with zero mention/thought of his daughter or even if he had an ill fated disease with no intention of going to see his daughter with a promise he swore. I’ll give him the benefit of a doubt, so long as he took pity on young Dalton.. but his daughter was also being criticized due to her origins; where’s her pity!! Who knows!!!!
