Based on the convo with darling outsider (lol), I think his mother was trying to create a virtual reality, so you're probably not far off.
Okay, hear me out — my theory so far
First, to clarify the names:
- MC = our current protagonist.
- Haydam = who I think MC originally was.
- Lunamun = MC/Haydam's mother.
- Dopamineaddict (IRL) = MC's username when he was still on Earth playing the game.
- Dopamineaddict (in-game) = the older/grown-up character we meet after MC gets pulled into the game. The important part is that Dopamineaddict is his in-game TITLE, meaning he apparently earned/achieved it.
Now the actual theory:
Even before we knew about Lunamun, I thought MC was originally Haydam because the kid looks almost exactly like Haydam IRL, just younger. It doesn't feel like a random avatar/model.
I also think the man connected to Haydam could actually be his biological father. The story talks about his mother a lot, but his father is suspiciously absent.
But the biggest thing for me is the Dopamineaddict coincidence.
Our MC was literally Dopamineaddict IRL when he played the game.
Then, after being pulled into the game, he encounters an older character whose actual in-game title is Dopamineaddict.
Why would the exact same name exist as both MC's IRL username AND another person's achieved in-game title?
And then there's the player mechanic.
NPCs continue living through the game's timeline, while players who register start as young characters.
What if that's not just a gameplay mechanic?
What if the player's in-game body is actually connected to their real existence, and the “young character” is more than just an avatar?
That would explain why MC looks like a young Haydam.
My Lunamun theory is that after she returned to Earth, she either created/developed the game, OR her body had already existed in the game world and she somehow returned to Earth afterward. Maybe she even gave birth to Haydam/MC there.
And what about the older Dopamineaddict?
Maybe the in-game Dopamineaddict completed every event and went through the entire game, but he was still a relatively rigid character whose actions followed the game's rules. The choices he made throughout his life were actually being made by the player controlling him — Haydam/our MC back when he was still an IRL gamer — while the in-game character himself physically lived through the world and grew up. So even though he experienced the entire storyline, he was still limited to what the game allowed him to do, which is why he couldn't reach the real answer. Maybe that's when he realized that the true ending requires breaking outside the game's rules, rather than simply completing everything the game has to offer.
Maybe the player's IRL body has to be pulled into the game world to reach the true ending and uncover what's actually behind the world/evil.
Which would explain why the older Dopamineaddict is testing MC.
He's not just testing if MC can clear the game.
He's testing whether MC/Haydam will make the same choices, discover the same clues, and eventually reach the same conclusion he did.
So basically:
What if the “game” isn't actually a game?
What if it's a real world connected to the players' IRL existence, and the game system is just the interface we're seeing?
Because the MC = young Haydam + Lunamun's mystery + the player/NPC aging mechanic + IRL Dopamineaddict becoming another character's achieved title feels way too connected to be coincidence.
