kinda, some people get powers and super natural healing abilitys. Everyone in the world can get corruption near the monsters and area dungeons. Mc is not a dmg dealer, tank, buffer, and healer/purifying was not possible until him. The story is how mc has fallen into the source of all corruption after being betrayed by his best friend.
So MC have power? And ML kinda reason for all the corruption?
I'd say it's more hunterverse than guideverse. There's no guides or need for guiding, just awakeners that have powers and can get corrupted by the toxic atmosphere of the rifts.

There's three tiers of awakener in general: low, mid and high. High are the ones that "start" the line, they're able to pass on their power to create low and mid tiers (detail hidden from the public for obvious reasons). I don't remember if you can level up from low to mid, but one can't awaken as high tier when another high tier of that power already exists. And it's a tare happening anyway, apparently.
High tier awakeners are all good natured amd kind people, Hyunmook in the novel is pretty much a green forest.
MC is a high tier purifier, awakened in the Abyss (where they currently are), the first ever to awaken this power and thus the one who will pass the purification power onto others that are suitable for it. Purification is the nemesis of corruption, he can revert the state of corrupted things and beings completely, so long as he's strong enough for it or the object isn't far too corrupted. (He can't entirely purify the Sunrise team, they've been in the Abyss for far too long, but he can keep them sane and relatively free of their negative enhancements)
He can basically rid the object if anything harmful to the human body, so while for example vegetables can still look weird and modified, they'll be perfectly fine to consume.
ML is a high tier lightning user. He's not the reason why the Abyss exists, but he does have some sort of "similarity" to the Abyss, in the form of the power he didn't want to speak about.
He's the most corrupted of the team, since he's saved the other members (yep, the whole team is still alive) from the Flood over and over. His negative enhancement isn't lust or anything physical, contrary to what it seems like with YangYang, but it's something more heartbreaking.
The Abyss is some sort of separate dimension that periodically ingurgitates places from different worlds, not just Earth apparently but I could be wrong, consumes what's in it and will eventually regurgitate it. It kind of acts like a stomach, it's a living entity that will use the Flood to keep chasing Yohan due to his purification powers, as he's his only natural enemy.
