It's basically an AU similarly to omegaverse with individuals called guides and espers. Espers are people with superhuman abilities who fight against mosters but they start losing their minds if they use too much of their powers which is where guides come in. They're basically powerbanks for espers using a technique called guiding which in most cases uses physical touch and/or exchange of bodily fluids to recharge the esper's powers.
basically it’s this universe where monsters start appearing out of these gates and only espers (kinda like hunters with magic and powers) have the ability to clear the gates and kill the monsters. but the more espers use their abilities, the more they get corrupted so they need “guides” who have the power to heal/stabilize their energy.
jihun here is an esper! that’s why he has wolf ears and can transform into a wolf. gitae was supposed to be his guide, but like what was shown, he can’t guide and is only an ordinary civilian. idk if this is the reason why his scars here are worse but espers have a tendency to “rampage” when they don’t get guiding. either those scars are from the monsters, or it’s jihun unknowingly scarring gitae whenever he rampages. the scene where jihun almost bites the guy at the store is also an indication of how close he is to rampaging because he isn’t receiving guiding.
i have a couple of guideverse recs here! you can check em out cause it’s honestly one of my fav verse regardless of how repetitive the tropes are:
1. b-class guide
2. special guidance
3. how that guide is loved
4. guiding hazard
5. the s-class guide as sweet as honey

another guideverse banger from this author. i’m sick of the b class guides and s class esper trope I NEED MORE OF THIS AUTHOR’S VISION IN NON-TYPICAL GUIDEVERSE GOD DAMN
