Thank you for translating this series! I didn't know that there were plenty of chapters of this that remained untranslated before. Finally many of us readers who have read this story years ago can have closure.
Also, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I know many people are put off by the shotacon nature of it, but it really is a unique story that leaves you thinking ( and feeling depressed XD ). I just wish people give it more grace than brushing it off simply because tackles dark themes that they find uncomfortable.
Thank you Honey, I've been reading this series since 2018, and it has planted a deep mark in my memory because its so compelling. Im glad someone had finally committed to translating the rest & i couldnt agree more with your thoughts about the story.
Im just so sad that its over now...
i guess now my goal is to import the merch...

This is long yap, reader be prepared. If you dont want to read 5000 words of autism, you may scroll ^^
Ive wanted to write down my feelings, and thoughts, about this series for a while now. Now that im done translating the main lore thingies (migi is more just fluff and slice of life), it feels like a good time... I can finally yell things into the void ^^
Thank you so much for all your support, and kind words! They give me strength to keep working on this <3 I already knew how the comment section would look like, but if my uploads make even one person happy, thats enough for me. (⌒▽⌒) Migi will hopefully get some uploads in the next few weeks! Depends on how hyper focused I get. I am full of pure autistic joy and I am so happy to see people loving and talking about sabi no yume.
While I do love dark themes in BL, and anything that makes me think, a lot of them don't include the comfort I also want... so Ive never found anything quite like this series. It combines hurt, trauma, psychological, drama and comfort, love, slice of life, in beautiful ways. Despite the extremely heavy, dark themes the story includes (toshio's entire backstory, the taboo nature of the relationship, moral questions), I find that the author wrote about them all in a very delicate, gentle, thoughtful way. It is meant to be disgusting, it is meant to make you feel heavy in the chest. The story is powerful, and it makes you feel so many emotions at the same time. Everything you see and read makes you ask questions, think deeply. While the manga is advertised as a shota BL, there's a lot of really unique nuance that makes me adore it all the more. We see a little bit of what goes on in Shindou's head. He knows he feels deep feelings towards toshio, but understands his responsibility, and finds them uncomfortable. Something that would rather be tucked away. Even in the last main chapter of Hidari, Shindou leaves a lot of things unsaid.
The main question people tend to have, is the nature of their relationship. And it's one of my favourite things to talk about regarding this series, since its so complex. Honestly, I think its up to the reader to think how exactly they interpret Shindou and toshio. Shindou might feel romantic feelings towards toshio, but one thing is for sure. He really cant be asked to do anything sexual. It could be that he feels too guilty to. I like to read it as some kind of asexuality. Shindou has never really shown the want, or the need, for anything sexual, while accepting (although awkwardly) all kinds of other physical affection. It adds a really interesting layer to their dynamic, one that not a lot of mature BLs have. (not to diss any other works, though. i love all!)
Shindou, in his own way, loves toshio. Toshio, loves shindou, more than anyone else. I dont really know what label to use for them, theyre just Shindou and toshio. and they kiss! and hug! and get lovey dovey! yatta! (⌒▽⌒) <3<3<3
Toshio himself is what makes the story feel truly special to me. He is deeply relatable in so many ways, it almost feels like looking at a mirror sometimes. Its kinda scary... but it helps me appreciate everything that much more. His backstory is tragic. It makes my chest feel heavy, and it makes me want to tear up. But that is how its supposed to be. You are supposed to feel for toshio. And its what makes it so dear to me. I love being in mental pain so freakingmuch ! ! !ヾ(☆▽☆)
Watching him learn how to be human again, is really comforting. He keeps growing everyday, even if things are hard, he cant physically grow older, he has trouble expressing himself and processing things. Its really sad, but at the same time, oddly heartwarming. The whole thing with his little sister made me want to CRY!, the grave, the family, it was all so hard for toshio to get through. But he managed to overcome the scary, big feelings. With Shindou by his side (⌒▽⌒) Whether you like him or not, i think most of us can agree that Shindou helped toshio have a normal life again. Their relationship isnt perfect. It will never be. But thats okay, and Toshio will still be so happy everyday. He learns more and more with Shindou, he's safe, and comfortable. And that's all toshio could ever want. ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
And, its fiction. Fiction is a safe way to explore things like this. To anyone who read it, and is feeling complicated: its okay, youre not a bad person. if you liked the story, thats okay! if you didnt, thats okay too!
