Um, I don't mean to stir the pot, but I've seen some of his posts and honestly I think you're ignoring what he has to say without fully considering it. Maybe he said elsewhere that he hates women, but to me(another man), most of his points weren't totally off base.

That said, what is with this petty drama I see all over here? It's so silly. Leave middle school at middle school.

He has a point when you think of it. He was being told that he would look cute as an uke (as a bottom), and that isn't exactly a compliment, he isn't even there for yaoi, so if I was in his position I wouldn't exactly be happy. But overall, I'd have to agree with you.

Oh lord, I didn't see that thread. I think the main issue here is that we aren't your play things. From the little I know of him, I do seem to have much softer opinions on the fujo, but even I get pissed when ignored and treated like our opinion doesn't matter. You're getting off on us, at least listen to us when we say something is problematic... and don't sexualize us(actual humans, with real thoughts, feelings, and opinions) without consent. Please.

I don't know where you got the idea that he hates women. And twink also makes valid points about yaoi being a hidden genderbent manga targeted to women. Most of what you read is pretty unrealistic portrayals of homosexual relationships. That is because the artists, mostly women, do not have experience of what homosexuals face in society. Some ukes might as well be women, and the story could still continue as it is. As a gay man, he doesn't want to read something like that only IF the story is realistic.

he hates fujoshis. fujoshis are women who like yaoi. its not technically "women" per se, more like what these women are DOING with their fantasy with yaoi and perceiving it onto real gay men.

Isn't it interesting that outside the context of manga, many are worried about the objectification of women in media such as games and artwork but feel like it's okay to objectify men? It's true though that a lot of fujoshis read yaoi because of the sex involved. Maybe story, but it's mostly sex. I cannot count how many times I have read comments like:

    "I hate the lightsabers."

"Thank you for uncensoring the dicks!"

"They should just have sex already!"

    "I wish this wasn't shounen-ai."

"I can't read this if it's not yaoi."

Men are objectified just as much as women are. It's pretty unnerving to me, as a woman personally, that this is what readers pay attention to.

Agreed. I find the whole, "It's not real life, so just don't complain!" thing really concerning. And then we're going to tear down a gay man because he shared his feelings on the matter? It's very similar to how people brush off all manner of injustices.

To me, yaoi isn't such a huge deal. It has problems which bother me, and I talk about those problems and expect to be heard. Because it's the very least girls who enjoy it can do. I'm just one guy though, and his opinion is just as valid as mine. People need to LISTEN more and be less defensive.

ah I would agree but I don't relate yaoi to actual gay men. Like its like reading about straight peoples relationships in manga's, not all of them are completely accurate etc. I only read them for their own content and not because I believe their ''realistic''. I dunno. Though I hate it too when people say ' I can't read this if it's not yaoi ' its like saying ' I can't enjoy my friends straight relationships if their not gay ', like it's just relationships okay, theres nothing different between yaoi, straight and yuri etc. oinfogneirng.

This is problematic in itself though. Because as a gay man, I don't have the luxury of separating it. And honestly, it's just an offshoot of how we're treated by women in general. I cannot tell you how many times I've had girls squealing over me and whomever I was dating at the time. That is so obnoxious. We aren't puppies. Haha

Yup, a comic can be entirely fictional and unrealistic, but it's definitely the mindset of the readers that concerns me a lot more. This is especially true for those that don't recognize that there's something wrong, and like you said, are defensive about it.

I like reading yaoi, but I can see that there are problems revolving around the content of a particular series or the community in general. In Mangago, the fujoshi community is surprisingly large, probably larger than any other site (besides yaoi-oriented ones, of course). I start cringing when many readers make yaoi a huge or influential part of their life. People start saying things like "I want to be a gay man", "I wish I had a dick too", etc.

Right! On one end, I kind of don't blame girls for wanting to be gay men. We have all the best men. It's true. We took them and we're not giving them back. On the other side, it seems not based on the reality of it. Even those who are basing it on their real life experiences aren't taking in to consideration the actual experiences of gay men. Things are so much better these days, but you can hardly say that being gay doesn't come with specific challenges(for some more than others). I get it though, overall. It's hard for women, too. Most of my friends have always been women, since grade school. I think they're great, and deserve better men.

Buuuttt, it gets weird when girls start saying they want to be gay men based on a fictional universe. And even weirder when some start saying they're trans just because they got too obsessed with yaoi. I am 100% supportive of actual transgender individuals, but this is something else entirely. It's a level of obsession which gives me the concerns.
