Unpopular opinion for here

Uke and seme are really degrading terms for gay men and really cringey just call them with a nickname if you can't remember the name instead of what position you think they'll be/are in bed

Edit: damn a lot of you are offended what I'm saying is these terms are degrading cause then some girls think it's okay to call a real gay guy a uke or seme lemme just say people don't like that it's real cringey and makes you seem like a fetishist

I don't think anyone refers to gay men as those things aside from in fiction? Also 'tops' and 'bottoms' are an actual thing(If that's what's upsetting you), displayed by many gay dating apps. Either way I don't think it's anyone intention to degrade anyone else with these terms.

    What are u a sjw?
It’s literally just another way of saying top or bottom. Gay men say it all the time. On another topic best nickname on this site is “don’t close close mountain/redhead” lmao

Well...at least you’re self aware this is an unpopular opinion..

    Chunta November 27, 2018 8:39 pm

It’s just a term for gay fictional anime characters. People really don’t call real men the “uke” or “seme”.
No one outside of boys love even knows what it is anyways.

UKE AND SEME LITERALLY ARE WHAT POSTITIONS THEY ARE IN BED. sorry lol. uke and seme are japanese words describing what position they are. uke translated to english means receiving and seme in google translate means TO ATTACK LOL. no but i dont feel like its degrading, some people say in real life there is no top and bottom and yeah some people irl like to swap but there are also people who prefer a side. and since this is manga and manhwa and so forth there are gonna be people saying uke and seme because most of the stuff on here is japanese ;p. but i respecc ur opinion anyway. thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Uke/seme is the Japanese equivalent of saying bottom/top to us. Not much difference, just the language. So why would gay men who do in fact use the terms (bottom/top) be degrading to themselves?

New to yaoi? Haha if you're sensitive just visit gay porn websites and get matured.

Uke and Seme are just the japanese terms for top and bottom in BL mangas and fanfictions. Also for the mangas if you don't like usint uke and seme theres always the tachi and neko where tachi is the top and neko(meaning cat but in BL mangas it refers to the position of bottom) is the bottom. But if you are new to BL thrn get used to it cause most people call then uke and seme to make it easier to either describe or explain. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

odd flex but okay November 27, 2018 9:44 pm

I agree that they're cringey and its, but not particularly degrading. Pretty well deserved if I'm being honest since most of the yaoi stories are just based around sex and most of the characters aren't even gay anyway 'cause If iT's YoU It'S oKay

    I can understand that.

Part of the problem is unawareness - one can use the terms in that way because others do and so it appears correct and inoffensive; the other part is that BL creators (whether or not it's appropiate) generally sort their characters routinely into these roles, which means calling them "uke" or "seme" has a literary element such as "protagonist" and "antagonist".

Of course, that doesn't mean people should just live in ignorance and perpetuate an insenitive or generally inaccurate way of describing characters, and that other people shouldn't make them aware. It just means that there's less harm intended than mere general laziness and uncaring, in many cases.

I’m gay and it’s okay to say them when referring to fictional characters but u right it’s weird asf when ppl do it irl 0.o like why r u assuming who’s which...
