i wouldn’t go as far as a failure of a mc, but she does get on my nerves sometimes. it’s only 20 chapters in so we might get some development later. and yes, she is a trauma victim. she barely received any education in her teen/adult years so it explains why she’s so naive and stupid. however, i definitely agree with your point where the author tries too hard to make her a “mary sue” and that characters exist just to point out how cute she is. but i believe most shoujo daughter/father stories have mary sue mcs (leslie from contract daughter or smth, tho she does sorta get her development later) it is wut it is ┗( T﹏T )┛
i’ll probably continue reading tho, the art is cute

UNPOPULAR OPINION BEWARE. POTENTIAL TRIGGER.
Hailynn is a failure of a MAIN CHARACTER, borderline Mary Sue. A barbie doll. Why? Because the author oversold her 'adorable-ness' completely, to the point that it's everywhere. How people can compare her to Athy from WMMAP is beyond me. Athy has more character development in one finger than Hailynn has in all 24 chapters. Athy makes her young self believable, even though there's an adult inside.
Here, you would think with the mages introduction, we can get their background. But no, the first thing the mages literally did was to point out Hailynn's adorable, and fanboys the way she walks. LIKE WHO ARE THEY? Do their characters exist just to show us she's cute? Her father's advisor thinks she's adorable. WHY DO YOU ALWAYS POINT IT OUT. Every people want her. More emphasis is place on her hair and clothes instead of giving her character development she desperately needs. She gets full page spreads on her hair and clothes, and her thoughts are dumbed down to a baby's, which is actually ok, she's a trauma victim or so I like to believe. But where's the trauma? I want to see how she deals with her past and why she's talking and thinking the way she is now. But all I can see is the author putting more effort into her clothes and braided hair and she can't seem to close her mouth.
