The duke buys a whole castle in Somerset just for a fling with her. Moves his whole business to the south for her and made all these plans so he could continue their fling but as his mistress but he had to sort stuff out in the capital. This is when Vanessa finds out about her pregnancy and she tries to send him a letter regarding her pregnancy, but instead decides to travel to his hotel (he mentioned it in passing) in the capital. There, as soon as she mentions River Ross, they immediately keep redirecting her till he finally meets her at another much grander hotel’s cafe/restaurant where she finds out that he is actually the duke. His attitude towards her here wasn’t the kindest. He then brought her up to their room where he keeps her confined from there on. She also hides the pregnancy from him since she felt conflicted by him lying to her.

The ML will accept the marriage proposal and have a fiancé, while trying to keep Vanessa as a lover on the side. His fiancée tried to be all cool about the relationship claiming it was all for business, she doesn’t mind him having a lover etc. Turns out she did like the duke and also her family was in a huge financial crisis and they needed the Battenberg family name to borrow money to help them out of the bind. She also tries to get in between Vanessa and the Duke and is aware of her pregnancy so she gives her a slight scare which becomes one of the catalysts to Vanessa running away from the duke. Later, after Vanessa runs away from the hotel and the duke, the duke finds out about what went down with V and his fiancée and breaks off the engagement. After her confinement she becomes miserable and runs away to a different kingdom where she is aided by her friend, the lawyer’s grandson. ML will chase after her but they only reunite years later because of a war between the neighbouring kingdoms. The Duke also decides to go into war himself when he could just be playing a passing role just to ask the king for a “wish” or favor after he wins so he can marry the MC as the duchess. Vanessa doesn’t forgive the duke and he can’t even find her immediately so there’s a long chasing arc that lasts years. The duke also did not know the child was his in the beginning. I kind of forgot the exact timeline but he finds the letter Vanessa tried to send him in her bedroom drawer and only realises that she’s actually pregnant (sorry for this part I kinda forgot a bit).
Alao the maid stays with the uncle even when he got dirt broke so she can at least have a title but uncle was a pos and tried to run away. Uncle dies from the people he owed money from and the maid leaves the house, she didn’t betray Vanessa. Redhead second lead helps hide Vanessa from the duke years later putting his own safety on the line. They all make up in the end, he marries someone else.
