The FL is making terrible decisions for herself. She is being completely selfish toward the ML. She’s not taking into account her own health, her well-being, her reputation, or the ML’s all under the guise of doing it 'for love,' and for a man with whom things obviously can't mix. If there's anything misogynistic here, it's the writing itself. This story started with her taking the place of her dead sister. Obviously if she cared about any of those things she would have not gone to him nor would have been stuck with her family in the beginning.
This is a character who has endured a life of nothing but abuse. The only thing that kept her going is her now dead sister.
Obviously she doesn't care what happens to her.

As someone with a Masters in Eng Literature, you're absolutely right that "self-sacrificing trope" has been in use in Literature forever. Amazing use of examples for co-relation too. I don't have a degree in that myself (was going for it but had to drop out for financial stuff) but I've grown up being someone very interested in literature. Read the classics as a kid. Took journalism, poetry and creative writing classes. Also used to write myself but not mostly just write poetry.
