To put it simply, our ml has emotional walls up as high as the sky, and has these "relationships" to fulfill his desire to have someone that depends on him. He doesn't love these people, and he breaks up with the ones who start wanting him to.
Our mc went into the relationship not knowing that, so he's looking at it very seriously, dedicating himself to this person who he thinks cares about him. He's falling in love and working to deepen their relationship, and get more serious about each other, not knowing that it's the opposite of what the ml actually intends.
The ml's best friend always said that he has crap taste in men and only picks out the losers, but it's the opposite...the people he dated were dumped/broke up with him because they started loving him and didn't want to be with a man who didn't love them.
Our mc has seen little bits of that emotional distance already, and we can already see that it bothers him, while he's not quite able to pinpoint what the issue is yet, or why it bothers him. And that's what makes this suck so badly.
If the ml wanted people to depend on him and not love him, he should have gotten a sugar baby, or talked to the people he was going to date to get their agreement. Not go and ask people out in a way that they'd be expecting a normal relationship only to end up heartbroken.

Currently we can already tell that the mc is showing his soft side and opening up to the ml but I’m worried about the relationship between them. It's still ongoing, so a lot of what I said is still going on, and building up to the pain. It will be quite some chapters before this stuff comes fully to light, and I think an even longer time for the drama to fully start in the raws, so as of right now there is no way to tell how this story will go exactly. But I would keep reading, because the story is really well put together, and im excited to see where the story goes from here.
The raws are like, a good 20-some chapters ahead of the newest update, and it's taken all of that time for things to sort of build up in this way, so I think it'd be safe for you to keep reading, because it looks like the culmination of the drama is still some ways away.
It's still very much ongoing, and while the raws are much further ahead than the English translation, it still hasn't resulted in a big drama moment. It's still building right now, and I think the author wants to have them end up together happy, but I am unsure how they want to go about doing it.

At first I was worried because he seemed sus in a really bad way, and I was concerned I was walking into something really dark or psychological, but then I noticed the distance, as you said, and started feeling really bad for the mc, as he wasn't really noticing the wall and was instead becoming more and more fond of the ml.
