I think it's very funny that if the MCs are probably the most mentally unstable bitches know to their school. (mental illness isn't what makes their relationship so unhealthy it's mostly miscommunication and lack of understanding) I feel like if the friend group finds out their dating the most the friends would do is be like "Oh shit we're fucked cause you bitches crazy" not "what? Gay people?!? You?!?"
Also I personally think Cirrus has BPD and idk what meds Skyler was taking at the beginning but he might be bipolar? Or he has severe anxiety or OCD or even all of them. It's kinda interesting that it's not the mental illness making them so unhealthy as much as it's them being bad at love coupled with mental illness exacerbating both.
Anyways the way they are so toxic to each other in such an imaginable way (they're characters it's not realistic but I can imagine myself as them) it kinda makes all the sweet parts fall flat... like where did all this chemistry come from without build up? But I am intrigued.
This is actually really interesting story telling but it does drag on a lot. I love how the characters have separate drives. It honestly has me rooting for all the characters to fulfill their dreams and get what they need. We're almost never told who a character is but show through their actions which is the kind of nuance I eat up. Also there isn't really a linear storyline kinda like how living goes. Characters repeat their past often trying to avoid it and it's really beautiful. When the characters are acting out their flaws they avoid the tropes well by sticking to their characters.
Also it does a really wonderful job showing the stigma in the queer community with being in the closet. Especially with showing both sides. The struggle that is being in a relationship with someone who isn't ready to let others know and the struggles of keeping up a relationship in the shadows without treating it as if it's forbidden. It also doesn't fetishize the "forbidden" aspect of the relationship, but instead shows the reality of it. The shame isn't sexy it's suffocating and all encompassing. The idea that you could lose your family because of who you love is an experience that is extremely isolating.
Also I high-key feel bad for and relate to the MC's Ex. Like I haven't dated someone who isn't out but quite a lot of my friends aren't out and they've told me about their fears of losing the connections they had to their families. Which always felt foreign to me as a person who grew up in a liberal home, because they literally don't care as long as I'm not breaking laws, self harming or being abused. Honestly younger me was very much similar to the MC's ex, like "How scary could a classical Lit Professor be?" Levels of not understanding why my friends weren't out. I only really started to get it after the heartstopper actor situation and being in the closet as a trans person at work. But I think I feel bad for the MC's Ex because he wasn't enough for him. ┗( T﹏T )┛
Anyway I'm completely ok. I just think this writing is actually really interesting.
As much as I want to see the dad get his ass handed to him. I love that he's there and that the dad being there brings out the worst qualities in the characters. Like Sohan's avoidant attachment style and Sihwa's lack of knowledge on emotions and relationships. I love how we already lightly established the character flaws in the first season then fleshed it out with more backstory and a greater look at how these characters work. We don't just get the random guy next door who looks around the corner with the freaking grimace smile everytime he leaves the main character's view. You get the main character's dad who isn't maniacally laughing every five minutes but in some sense genuinely concerned about his son in his own fucked up way. Also the characters each have their own problems that are individual to them not emblematic of the generic kink that is "forbidden love" that a lot of yaoi's fall into. The enemy isn't that their love is wrong or forbidden but that they're people and people fuck up. Also the way they weave exposition and emotions into the sex scene is quite beautiful. Like each sex scene is kinda unique, used to build the relationship between Sihwa and Sohan and the characters that they are with each other especially with the last sex scene which honestly was chef's kiss. But it was Sohan's way of showing that he still cared, and a way to have fun without his asshole of a father. Also I can't wait until Gabin has his arc. And this bitch be cookin and I'm so ready to eat I'm in literal pain fr.
As a trans guy Imma have to say.
1. This is a pretty interesting way to view gender Dysphoria. Like if we consider the transformation as less literally turning into a girl as much as how gender Dysphoria feels it's not all the time but it's pretty often. Sometimes it's just adapting to how others see you and other times it's working against that, but it's generally exhausting.

I realized like Baek and Sihwa are opposites personality-wise but also story-wise, especially in how they experience rejection and jealousy. Like when Baek met his mom and she was having a good life he just left, while when Sihwa sees Baek interacting with anyone positively he gets jealous. Or that Sihwa is desperately trying to regain a connection to his family while Baek is trying to cut his family off.
