I think it has to do with the industry of yaoi. Writing a lot of sex scenes takes less time for overworked authors :/

My personal recommendation is Turning. It's filled with plot, with a gigantic greenflag, slowburn because they take the time to fall in love/trust each other (there will have sex scenes but in a long time lol). It's a subversion of a mix of different tropes (monster gates/awakened, omegaverse, black cat/golden retriever). Go read 'Turning' but then people complain why there's no sex scene when the story of focusing on building the world and their relationship. So, go read something else other than Yaoi if you don't like sex scene too much. Take a step back and try other genre
