Because I was talking about the entire Japanese Hunter they showed. I did not talk about specific attitude of character towards another, it's the treatment this whole series gave to another country besides Western. If you notice since the start they mentioned Japan's hunters community (mayber ch. 175(?)), they always stick to the idea of Japan = only Ninja and Samurai exist, as if Japan only stuck on that idea and era. Like, if Korean Hunter could be modern while have the ideas of their culture (Dokkaebi for example), why couldn't Japan? Or any other Asian country if they decided to add another.
You literally said "...someone from Japan wearing modern clothes..." So I assumed you meant the scenes with the japanese guild and it's members and leader wearing traditional clothing.
My point is, that's his thing. The character you see on the throne (?) is the leader, who is consumed by the aesthetics of tradition. In the novel, the characters even comment on it, saying it's deeply related to his own ego. Everyone else indulges him because he is the leader of the guild, and the strongest hunter in Japan. They even have more pull than the government.
It is my understanding, this is not orientalism, but the delusions of a particularly strong individual.
I mean, even in the Hong Kong arc, people are dressed in modern clothes, except MC, but that was to make him pretty, I suppose.
That said, even if it was, I think any media from Korea gets a pass

I've read this so many times for years and I noticed things about Yoshimi. He did asshole things, HOWEVER there are many misconceptions about him:
1. He doesn't mind Riku topping! Riku never takes lead which ends up being Yoshimi to dominate and topping. Try reading chapter 13.
2. Yoshimi never hates Riku, he just despise a certain personality of Riku (pessimistic)
3. Riku flirt and asked Yoshimi to be his BF, yet mistook Yoshimi as someone else while Yoshimi thought Riku was playing with him. (kind of).
4. He did rape Riku and I wouldn't deny it. Yet, the rest of his asshole-ness mostly based on misunderstanding Riku created (since again, Riku is pessimistic so he often disregard their relationship, thinking it was all fake)

Imagine you're a weak frail human and you met someone who could put you into death by merely putting their head onto yours. Yes, they may try to control their power, but who are you to know when they would lost it? Taewon realizes his privilege as someone powerful and he tries to put himself in non-S rank positions, they would be terrified at him. His character actually very interesting, between all those powerful S-ranks, only him who could see that just by accepting his and the world current fate wouldn't erase their fear.
And everyone sees him as the weird guy, LMAO.
They probably do understand where he's coming from and empathize, but they personally would never do that so they see him as a weird guy
