I still love this story! Lyle's so cute and everything before the "break up" and after the reconciliation is so freaking great!
But damn I still hate the misunderstanding and especially how Ash just doesn't take much accountability for what he said to Lyle on that day and had the audacity to get mad when he literally had just called their relationship nothing to Lyle's face, even if he didn't realize his own feelings for Lyle at the time...
... I always try to excuse it by thinking that Lyle probably looks a lot more poker faced than how the artist drew it through the whole series, so that Ash legit didn't know Lyle's feelings but anyone with eyes could see that Lyle was hurt when he said that...
And I know that it's kinda the point that we're also supposed to see that Ash is actually really flawed and almost as emotionally stunted as Lyle but hides it better...
But man I just hate how Ash almost excuses his own actions and what he said by blaming it on Lyle's inability to express himself...
To me some of Ash's actions just don't seem very sincere when trying to get Lyle back and that it's a lot more about his own feelings than Lyle's feeling's... To me that's the only flaw in this story... Otherwise a freaking masterpiece
he never put the blame on him though? he always figured out where he himself was wrong before moving on to how lyle was dealing the situation because he's also shown human and has stunted communication almost as much as lyle, unlike lyle who usually doesn't like to communicate much, ash pushes him out of thay zone because its not one sidedly up to him to consistently be understanding of a person who doesn't express themselves, he was very human, same with lyle. both their faults were equally recognised, esp by Ash.
I loved this story a lot, but no... I just can't read it anymore.
I've seen a few people trying to defend this because of the historical setting. But no, there's no excuse. The fact that all the adult characters are pushing and glorifying this relationship is so gross. Even the MC who's from our modern world seems okay with it????
And Fil wtf??? Sorry if he was a proper adult he wouldn't want a romantic relationship with this child! BUT instead he and everyone is already conditioning this child into thinking about him like a romantic interest????? I saw someone say this isn't grooming, but man what they're doing is like textbook grooming!
There's 100% a way the author could have written this where this scenario could at leats have been tolerated... Seperate until adulthood or like just letting the adult have some fucking morals and be conflicted or like just not being interested in a romantic relationship at all from the beginning????!!!!
If you guys want to read something where this child bride/groom trope is handled at least with respect Kouguu no Omega or BWATs new
Blossoms of the White Night are better examples... So no it's not like I can't handle this trope I just can't handle it when it's romanatized like this!
Sayonara Alpha is one like this. It atleast has the emotional struggles of one of the mates being a child.
So due to hyesungs backstory being brought up in this story I went back and read the original just to see how bad it was.... And guys I swear...

Also people saying that we shouldn't discuss the original and focus on Byuls story, yeah to sum degree, but when they decide to bring it up again in this story as a way to move the plot... Well I think it's fair to discuss how fucking messed up that situation was/is and how it's handled as a fucking joke... To quote my most hated character in ch27 " but it all got sorted out pretty quickly"... No for real what kinda resolution is this? All just for a stupid kiss? Hyesung had to relive his guilt and trauma just for a stupid kiss? and the fact that Byul doesn't even care about his mom enough to wanna hear his side of the story, and has only heard grandmother's side...
And then afterwards we have to hear him say he actually didn't give any fucks about what his mother said because he's too focused on that kiss, what kinda rushed story and character assassination is this? Like i understand Byul being young, so he's kinda excused, but at the same time, I just get so sad that no one in Hyesungs life fucking care about him...
And like is he just gonna keep seeing his grandma like nothing happened? Again no fucking proper resolution? I guess author just ignore Byuls feelings, but they don't even address this even though it's pretty important?
Also I will legit crash out if they try to reconcile with the grandma again... Byul please be more respectful of your mom's decision than your dad!

LEGIT how I feel, I despise Dojin with a PASSION, he has made Hye-sung suffer through SO much and the fact that some people fail to see that or even DEFEND a horrible character like Dojin says a lot about the kind of person they are.

Hmmmmmmm well that was a disappointment... I legit thought Valentine was a red herring cause it was too fucking obvious and that Joey was actually framing Valentine, who wasn't innocent, but also wasn't the actual mastermind either.... But from the spoilers I read it seems this is the actual outcome and I'm like, well what now? I guess it's a short series then... Probably also why k thought it couldn't be this obvious cause I thought their might be a second season in the works and this was just the end of s1.

All we know is that he used to be Haebeom's mother's BF. And everyone just immediately assume he just left her while she was pregnant? What? Like do you just want him to be the bad guy? Like what if they broke up and he went back to his native country and lost contact, since no phones or social media back in those days, and she then found out she was pregnant? Like no one giving him the benefit of the doubt that he might not have known about Haebom.
Only thing that I don't like is that he doesn't respect MLs boundaries, now that he told him off. But just immediately throwing out the "deadbeat dad" accusations, when we have so little info is wild. So yeah unless you all know something I dont, i feel you all being a bit harsh.

True, but then again... he knew about her passing away. Did his father not allow him to return? Does he have a wife and other children? Did he hire a private investigator to know about his gf and son? What does he think when he sees his son interact with the village folks
I'm not upset by an assumption he left when she was pregnant, im upset by the fact he hasnt been there for his entire childhood, which is valid lol imo regardless of the reason or whether he knew or not he hasnt been there and so, just as the dad clearly understands since he never pushed back on haebom saying he couldn't be expected to js turn up after all these years and he'd want to talk to him, the hurt he would feel caused by that objective fact is valid and a valid reason to be upset with him, ofc feelings can change over time and with new information brought but this is what were going off of in a manga where were given days to ruminate between each update when its only been hours for the actual characters meant to be experiencing these things. Its just whether you wanna give him the benefit of the doubt bc either way you have to make assumptions to his benefit or detriment atm as to whether he knew she had a kid in all that time so I think that hating on him at this moment in time should be ok until evidence to the contrary

We know who is the actual fucking monster to blame for all the fucked up shit he did... Damn their father was a fucking bastard! Like why the fuck does Ci Nian have to be grateful for? The man just used his mother for his own benefit and left her to die while he cheated? And then won't even acknowledge the son he got from his adultery, which makes the son envy the crap out of his older brother, gives him an inferiority complex and makes him greedy? He then want to use Ci Nian but when he find he is flawed he then turns straight to the other son, who has been fucking corrupted, dangling a carrot in front of him saying he'll now acknowledge him and give him the live and wealth his brother had...
Of course this doesn't justify any of the horrendous thing Xin Nian did.. like he is a fucking murderer? But apparently murder is easier to cover up than homosexuality so it is okay in the father's eyes... Like people are just tools to the fucking guy?

So was I put off by the smut? No, I have read equally weird stuff... But there's just something about this that doesn't work?
Like I love a good corruption story... But then you have to commit to it just being smut and nothing else, but the fact that this tried to pretend to have plot, ruined it for me.
And what really pissed me off was that it used one of my least favorite tropes to justify him being abandoned as well.
Some people would probably say that this is the whole point of the corruption tag and yes technically on paper it is exactly that ... But there's just some things in the story that makes the corruption itself unbelievable to me...like I don't buy it...
And don't get me started on the second hand where he's already corrupted... The fucking tone shift is god awful! Like decide what genre you wanna write???????
So yes I fucking hated it despite it having awesome smut
Also side note... You could also write a longer and more serious corruption story with more fleshed out characters as well and actually commit. I think that could have worked as well . Instead of this half assed plot in between smut.
