I feel like people are hating on the ones complaining about Varia's arc when what they aren't getting is not that people just hate Varia for no reason, they hate her cuz she's not written well into the story. If she was written well and the duke falling in love with her was handled better it would have been good.

from the beginning Varia is treated as this intelligent returnee who has more information than others but 1. she never really seems to act upon it/act like it, except for the documents she showed, 2. she doesn't seem intelligent in the first place, just intelligent in the author-said-so-so-she-is way, unlike how we see Leo and the Duke show how they get along with each other. And if Varia was truly impressive then it would be fun to watch the Duke hopelessly fall in love since he's such an impressive character, but if Varia can't even impress the readers why would a Duke who has seen unnumbered amount of impressive women who work for him/with him be impressed with this lady?
